The Application of Telemedicine to HIV Prevention and Treatment


Timothy G. Heckman is Professor of Geriatric Medicine/Gerontology at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is also Director of the Center for Telemedicine Research and Interventions at Ohio University. Since 1993, Dr. Heckman's has examined quality of life issues in persons living with HIV/AIDS. For the past decade, his research has focused primarily on conceptualizing, implementing, and evaluating innovative interventions to reach two groups of persons living with HIV/AIDS that have been largely overlooked by HIV researchers--HIV-infected rural persons and older adults living with HIV/AIDS. His telemedicine research program has been funded continuously by the National Institutes of Health since 1997.
